Kathryn Elias, stage name Kasia al Medina, currently lives in
Ohio. She grew up primarily in New York City and was greatly influenced
by the musicians, artisans, dancers and actors that such a large city holds.
Music has always been a guiding light. After her marriage, she and her
husband moved to California.
There, in their youth, a new exciting world was explored. Among the many diversions,
they discovered the Renaissance Faire. That is where Kathryn saw her first belly
dance performance. At that moment she was hooked to this exciting Art form.
The music found a willing partner in interpretation. This is where the dancer
was born. Then, through time, books, videos, magazines, later the internet, CDs
and DVD's the dancer emerged. Combined to that the artist, fashion designer,
choreographer, actor, and a need to share herself, the teacher was ready to begin
her instruction. But one further element was lacking, a real teacher of her own.
As fate will have it, she met Sherena in all places Medina, Ohio. They not only
began a student/teacher relationship but a true friendship. There is a special
bond that women, who see the world together, make. This friendship is something
that Kathryn instills in her own students. That caring and cared for feeling.
We are all sisters in the dance.
